On June 23, 2025, the ILO and ITC- ILO jointly hosted a webinar on the fair recruitment of migrant workers with disabilities. The event gathered experts representing workers, employers, technical specialists, regional actors and civil society to discuss the unique challenges faced by this often overlooked group in migration and labor markets.

The discussion highlighted significant barriers migrant workers with disabilities encounter, including exploitation risks, discrimination, and limited access to accessible workplaces and services. A critical issue raised was the lack of reliable data and underreporting, largely driven by stigma and fear of discrimination,

Speakers emphasized the importance of inclusive recruitment policies that ensure employers bear recruitment costs, provide accessible work environments, and offer tailored support and training. The need for stronger legal frameworks, cross-sector collaboration, and active involvement of migrants with disabilities themselves was a recurring theme.

Advocates called for policy reforms to remove extra barriers, enhance data collection and improve psychosocial support for migrants with disabilities, including those who acquire disabilities during migration or at work.

The webinar underscored that achieving fair recruitment for migrant workers with disabilities requires leadership, partnership, and sustained commitment across governments, the private sector, and civil society.

This activity was carried out with the support of the FAIR III program.
