The FAIR III, Action Project, and FMM II, in collaboration with ECOWAS, hosted a two-day workshop in Abuja on 24 and 25 June to adapt the ILO Media Toolkit on fair recruitment and labour migration to the specific context of West Africa.
The event gathered around 50 participants, including media professionals, representatives of journalists’ unions, and communication specialists from across the ECOWAS region. Participants worked collectively to ensure that the toolkit reflects regional migration dynamics and strengthens the role of the media in promoting fair recruitment practices and the protection of migrant workers.
This initiative is part of the ILO’s ongoing efforts to equip journalists and media outlets with practical tools to report accurately and responsibly on labour migration issues, while amplifying the voices of migrant workers and supporting evidence-based public dialogue in the region.
The updated media toolkit will be made available to support media professionals in contributing to fair recruitment and informed migration governance across West Africa. It will be made available in English, French and Portuguese.
