The fourth Labour Migration Advisory Group (LMAG) meeting, held in Juba, South Sudan, dedicated its third day to strengthening labour migration governance through international labour standards. The session focused on the ratification, implementation and reporting of key ILO conventions relevant to fair and safe migration.

Discussions covered core instruments, including migration for employment (C97), migrant workers (C143), private employment agencies (C181), domestic workers (C189), and violence and harassment (C190). Participants examined how these frameworks can support more rights-based and effective labour migration systems across the region.

Experts from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the African Union Commission shared regional perspectives, highlighting ongoing efforts to align national policies with international standards and to reinforce cooperation across the East and Horn of Africa.

The session provided a platform for dialogue among policymakers and technical stakeholders, contributing to stronger institutional capacity and more coherent approaches to labour migration governance in South Sudan and beyond.
