Within the framework of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and the Global Compact on Refugees, the ILO held the Global Media Competition on Labour Migration 2021, which aims to promote media reporting that highlight the role of migrant workers in our societies. The ILO office in Spain organized a prize-giving ceremony to congratulate Judit Alonso Gonzalbez, Javier Sulé and Marta Saiz, authors of Mineros Urbanos a Cielo Abierto, la Cara Invisibles del Reciclaje, published in the Planeta y Futuro section of the El País. This work focus on the interrelationship between migration, labour, environment and economy, showing the conditions faced by migrants in an irregular administrative situation, who work as informal recyclers in Barcelona, whose work is not recognized economically or socially, despite being essential in the circular economy. The ceremony was led by Félix Peinado, the Director of the ILO office in Spain and also included the presence of the journalist Nicolás Castellanos, a specialist in migrations, who work closely with the ILO in related issues.
