Background

Application deadline: 23 October 2023

Every year, millions of workers and employers rely on the services of public and private recruitment agencies to match job seekers with jobs.

Despite the existence of International Labour Standards relating to recruitment, many of these workers, particularly migrant workers, face exploitation as well as report having been the victims of one or more of the following abuses: deception about the nature and conditions of work; retention of passports; illegal wage deductions; debt bondage linked to the repayment of recruitment fees; and threats if workers want to leave their employers, coupled with fears of subsequent expulsion from a country.

Businesses also face difficulties in filling their labour market needs with workers with the right set of skills and in a timely manner.

This course, based on the ILO’s ongoing work to promote Fair Recruitment, is a direct answer to the acknowledged need to reinforce the capacities of the ILO constituents and other key actors.

After three online editions, the course is returning to in-person format in Mexico City, featuring an updated approach that combines both online and residential phases.

  • Phase 1: Online (E-Campus) 30 October – 10 November 2023
  • Phase 2: Mexico City 13 – 17 November 2023
