Background

International labour migration continues to shape labour markets and societies worldwide. As labour mobility increases in a rapidly changing political, economic and social environment, governments and other stakeholders are increasingly called upon to develop policies and programmes that promote fair, well-governed and rights-based labour migration.

The International Labour Organization (ILO), in collaboration with the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO), is organizing the Academy on Labour Migration to provide advanced training and foster dialogue among key migration actors. The Academy is designed for representatives of governments, workers' and employers' organizations, civil society organizations, migrant and diaspora associations, international organizations, academia and the media. It aims to strengthen participants' capacity to address labour migration challenges while promoting decent work and the protection of migrant workers and refugees.

Drawing on the ILO Agenda on Fair Migration, international labour standards and other key normative frameworks, the Academy will cover a broad range of topics, including fair and effective labour migration governance, the protection of migrant workers and their families, migration and sustainable development, and crisis migration.

The course is composed of an online phase and a residential phase. The online phase consists of modules offered through the eCampus online platform to be completed over a period of 3 weeks. This will build the foundation for the residential component of one week and will accompany formal training with activities fostering knowledge exchange and cross-fertilization of ideas. This will be followed by a one week online wrap-up phase.
