The ILO, through its INTEGRAMOS project, delivered technical assistance to strengthen Ecuador’s institutional capacity on fair recruitment in the context of labour migration programs. The two-day workshop, held on 26 and 27 August, permitted officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility and the Ministry of Labour of Ecuador to collaborate and receive specialized training on fair recruitment practices, as part of a broader effort to strengthen the governance of labour migration.
Organized in collaboration with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) through its Partnerships for Development-Oriented Labour Migration Program (PAM), the training focused on ensuring transparent, fair, and rights-based recruitment processes for workers seeking opportunities abroad.
International good practices, particularly from Germany and Guatemala, served as reference points as participants reflected on ways to guarantee that labour migration develops under principles of equality, non-discrimination, and protection of workers’ rights. Discussions highlighted the importance of aligning Ecuador’s migration policies with international labour standards, and the workshop further introduced practical tools for officials to apply in their daily work, strengthening mechanisms of inter-institutional cooperation and support for migrant workers.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by ILO and GIZ to promote decent work and fair recruitment, ensuring that both Ecuadorian nationals and migrants benefit from safe and equitable access to international labour markets.
