Bareedo Platform Somalia, with support from the ILO through the Better Regional Migration Management (BRMM) Programme, in collaboration with the Migration Response Centre (MRC), Bossaso Municipality, and the Ministry of Labour & Social Affairs Somalia (MoLSA), has organized a new series of awareness-raising workshops on migrant workers’ rights in Bossaso, Puntland, Somalia.
The campaign aims to enhance the knowledge of migrant workers and host communities on international labour standards, migrants’ rights, fair recruitment practices, and available protection mechanisms. These community workshops and dialogues with migrants, host communities, media, and local authorities will empower migrants and communities, strengthen institutions and local governance, and support fair recruitment and decent work.
In Bossaso, BRMM Programme has also taken a significant step in improving services for migrant workers by enhancing the capacity of their Migrant Resource Centre (MRC), though providing furniture and IT equipment. The centre aims to provide reliable information on labour migration, access to essential services and counselling, and referrals to relevant institutions and protection mechanisms for migrants workers in this key migration hub.
