Background
Because recruitment, employment and return span more than one country, effective protection of migrant workers also requires cooperation between workers’ organizations in countries of origin and destination throughout the labour migration cycle. The webinar will take stock of existing relationships and/or agreements, identify where they can be reactivated or strengthened, and determine where new partnerships may be useful.
The webinar will identify practical areas for cooperation on rights information, fair recruitment, pre-departure and post-arrival information, organizing and representation, complaint referral and case follow-up, cross-border legal and policy coherence, and exchange of information on recruitment and employment issues and trends. It will discuss workable modalities for sustained cooperation, including appointment of designated focal points, regular information exchange, referral arrangements and, where useful, conclusion of bilateral or corridor-specific MoUs.
The webinar is organized by ITCILO and supported by the Fair Recruitment Forward project, funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the FAIRWAY II programme, funded by the SDC.
